Bob Marley: One Love

When it comes to Bob Marley, I’m of that typical class of loose fan who know next to nothing about someone except their most famous work. From that perspective, One Love will both reward and frustrate you. Kingsley Ben-Adir (impossibly handsome and showing none of the real-world mileage of Marley) is damn good: charismatic, funny, charming, and maddening by turns. It’s not hard to see how people might have loved Marley or been driven crazy by him. On the other hand, One Love can be mightily confusing. What the heck is going on in Jamaica? Who are half these people? Why does Marley even care? And why won’t he fix that toe?

But I’m a terrible sucker for movies about artistic creation, and though there’s a fair amount of One Love that doesn’t work, the core of One Love, when Marley and the Wailers are in London making Exodus, is pure pleasure. (Amazon)
